Caesarean Delivery

A Caesarean delivery is a surgical procedure in which the baby is delivered through an incision made in the mother’s abdomen and uterus. This procedure is typically recommended when vaginal delivery poses risks to the mother’s health or the baby’s well being.

Indications for Caesarean Delivery
  • Labor Complications : If labor fails to progress or there are concerns about the baby’s well
    being during labor
  • Placenta Previa or Abruptio Conditions where the placenta is covering the cervix or
    detaching early
  • Maternal Health Concerns Such as high blood pressure, certain infections, or previous
    uterine surgeries
  • Multiple Births When delivering more than one baby
  • Previous C section In some cases, a previous Caesarean delivery may influence the method of delivery for subsequent pregnancies

High Risk Pregnancy

A pregnancy is considered high risk when there are potential complications that could affect the mother, baby, or both. Various factors such as pre existing health conditions, age, lifestyle, and pregnancy complications can contribute to this designation.

Common Risk Factors
  • Maternal age (below 17 or above 35)
  • Pre existing health conditions (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease)
  • Multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.)
  • History of pregnancy complications (preterm birth, preeclampsia)
  • Lifestyle factors (smoking, substance abuse)

Ectopic Pregnancy Treatment

Ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tubes. This condition requires prompt medical attention to prevent serious complications.

Ectopic Pregnancy Treatment Options:
  • Monitoring and Expectant Management: Close monitoring with blood tests and ultrasound scans for early, small ectopic pregnancies.
  • Medication (Methotrexate): Injection to stop ectopic pregnancy growth, suitable for stable cases with intact fallopian tubes.
  • Surgical Interventions:
    • Laparoscopic Surgery: Minimally invasive removal of ectopic pregnancy; fallopian tube repair or removal.
    • Laparotomy: Open abdominal surgery for severe cases or ruptured ectopic pregnancies.
  • Post Treatment Care: Close monitoring for resolution and complications, follow up
    appointments, and tests as needed.

Prompt medical attention and appropriate treatment are critical for managing ectopic
pregnancy effectively and safeguarding women’s health. Seek immediate medical advice if
you suspect an ectopic pregnancy.
